Loma Linda Children's Hospital
Setting: 25 bed pediatric intensive care unit
Timeframe: 18 months post-SIBR implementation
Summary: Median length of stay decreased with no changes in mortality or readmissions. Top survey responses from families increased as did participation on team rounds for families, nurses and respiratory care practitioners. Rounding time decreased significantly yet residents felt SIBR rounds positively impacted their education and were more effective than traditional rounds.
“A key benefit of SIBR is fostering effective, accurate,
and timely communication by bringing together team members with the patient and family at the same time and place. It promotes shared situational awareness and is essential to delivering high-quality care.
